The Kitchen – Futian

  • Fish and chips at The Kitchen Futian

The Kitchen is a chain of bistro-style restaurants serving up authentic Western cuisine, from France, Italy, US,  UK, Spanish, Mexican. Expats in Shenzhen say that it is the best place for UK style fish-and-chips to be found in the city. Also recommended is the Dover Sole (pan friend), Australian steaks and the burgers. On weekends it does all-day breakfasts.

The place is a little tricky to find, particularly when it is quiet. There is an open-air restaurant/entertainment section just north of the Metro Exit B (Gou Wu Gong Yuan station Exit B) building and the bus depot, follow the north-side of that building into the open outdoor restaurant seating area and you’ll see Le Nest, and Club Viva, and The Kitchen is one of the restaurants along that strip.

The restaurant is owned by a San Franciscan, and models itself on a typical Western style restaurant. The fish and chips, for example, are not chippy-style battered fish, but a quality above a pub-grub-style, and more near to a proper dining restaurant experience.

About Shenzhen Geek Trails

See Shenzhen in your own time and at your own speed.

A travel guide for Shenzhen (in Guangdong China) written by an introverted geek for an introverted geek. Not your standard commercial tourist fare, but a selection of interesting places where an introvert can explore on their own, or with a friend. And quiet spaces to reflect and introspect.

This includes travelling tips about how to get around, as well as getting to and from Shenzhen via Hong Kong International Airport.

I've recently completed my third visit to Shenzhen in just over a year. It is a beautiful modern city, with lots of green space to relax in.
